Marcel Fengler - "Frantic EP"

After Fengler's contribution to Part 5 of the Berghain compilation, he returns with yet another  EP for the Berlin club's imprint Ostgut Ton. The material on the Frantic EP is a development on his previous work on the label and its fluid and funky techno is more suited to the likes of Panorama Bar than Berghain's mainroom dungeon. Preview the three track EP below:

Benoit & Sergio - "New Ships (Original Mix)"

The Washington D.C. based duo Benoit & Sergio have been dishing out some quality genre-bending electronic music for a while now with a wide variety of influences.  They recently professed their love for their french colleagues - a french duo you might have heard of - in the form of their bold cover of "Around the World".  Their latest track to see the light of blog also pays perhaps an even more direct hommage to Daft Punk.  Despite the vocals being very characteristic of the D.C. duo, from the choppy riff and snarly bass guitar at the start till the funky vocoded synth lead that shows up at around the 2 minute mark, "New Ships" is Discovery-era Daft Punk with a modern twist:

Download: Photek - "Pyramid"

A new Photek track is always an exciting prospect.  One never knows what to expect anymore...dubstep, techno, drum and bass or techy downtempo?  What we can expect is something good and this latest track which you can listen to or download below is no exception.  "Pyramid", to be featured on his next full-length KU:PALM, is a slow fluid number with quite a few organic elements (bongos, rides, claps and those sneaky eastern string samples) yet the groove is hard-sequenced and the filthy bass undertone is ever present. This is more of that classic Photek aesthetic that feels like it's been labored over methodically in his lab, with a fresh sound palette and slower tempo.  Not to be missed.

Watch: WIFE (new Tri Angle Signing) - "Bodies" (Music Video)

Yup they've done it again. Tri Angle's latest signing WIFE aka James Kelly of Irish metal band Altar of Plagues fame, sounds as promising as every other addition to the label's impeccable roster.  Tri Angle will be releasing new music from WIFE next year, but until then you can watch the video for the track "Bodies" off his Stoic EP out in November on left_blank.  This a a guitar driven number, with spooky vocals and woody percussive elements that demonstrate both how much he belongs on the label as well as how he will be taking its niche sound to new directions.  The video juxtaposes urban footage with earthy ritualistic scenes which elaborates on a theme that we also hear in the music as a struggle to overcome the alienation of the digital age.  Watch the video below or (update) preview the Stoic EP right after:

Download: Boards of Canada - "Untitled" (Machinedrum edit)

A long long time ago, when Boards of Canada decided to stop making music (temporarily we still hope) we hit the P2P networks in desperate attempts to find and download any bootleg/unreleased/live recording of the duo we could get our greedy hands on.  Sifting through hundreds of tracks, some genuine BoC material some not, one song stood out among the rest.  The unreleased track that was performed live at a Warp 10th Birthday party in 2000 with the infectious vocoder (is it saying "the clock is ticking"?) and the electro-ish beat recorded in poor quality crept into our top BoC tracks of all time.  We've heard it so many times that the poor recording and crowd noise (many conversations can be heard, phones ringing etc.) feel part of the track now and even make it more Boardsy in a sense.  With all this in mind, we were delighted to hear that Machinedrum, who also went through the aforementioned steps, decided to provide a more cleaned up edit, recreating certain elements, yet also maintaining a lot of the original's aesthetic (including the crowd noise).  Listen to or download the track below:

SBTRKT - "Terminal"

More new music from the masked producer this time in the form of this minimal track entitled "Terminal".  The tracks that have been surfacing on SBTRKT's soundcloud page since the release of his self-titled LP do not feature those signature vocals yet their sound remains true to the magic that he delivered on his debut full length. Enjoy "Terminal" below:

The XX - Angels (Four Tet remix)

Four Tet gets his hand dirty once more with yet another remix for The XX.  The first time around, Four Tet delivered a remix of  "VCR" from the trio's debut album. This time Four Tet has sprinkled his production magic on Coexist opener "Angels".  The remixes could not be any more different from each other, as the first was a near dancefloor shuffle banger, while the "Angels" rework offers up a mere atmospheric shift with barely audible hints of percussion (we think we hear a couple of faint claps at some points and a kick definitely shows up late in the track). Four Tet doesn't exactly take this track to new territory but he does make it his own, demonstrating the subtle similarities between the artists' work in terms of sense of space and atmospherics.  Listen to it below:

Stay+ - "Crashed"

We've been following Machester based duo Stay+ for a while now and there's no denying their sound is evolving into something quite special. Their latest track to see the light of blog is definitely a testament to this. "Crashed" combines rave anthem vocals with catchy degraded trancy stabs that almost make this sound like an Avici track that you can listen to guilt-free.

Vessel - "Stillborn Dub"

Listen to the latest track to see the light of blog from Tri Angle's Vessel to be feature on his forthcoming LP Order of Noise releasing on October 15th.  The track is entitled "Stillborn Dub" but we think it sounds more like alien-church-dub.  Listen to it below:

Watch: Flying Lotus - Until the Quiet Comes (Short Film Album Preview)

You've probably heard that Flying Lotus will be releasing his next album Until The Quiet Comes on October 1st of this year but you probably haven't heard much music from this fothcoming LP yet (other than "See Thru to U", which features Erykah Badu).  The eponymous short film directed by Kahlil Joseph teases a few more tracks from the album and offers up some rather atmospheric visuals to go along with them.  For more details on the tracks and pre-orders release formats head over here.  You can watch the Until The Quiet Comes short film below:

Download: D/R/U/G/S - Amphibian EP

Mancunian producer D/R/U/G/S' sound is difficult to pigeonhole in terms of genre, yet one can definitely pin point some recurring themes.  For one he does not shy away from the buzzier side of synth textures, which are often complimented by deep ambient pads. He also places a lot of emphasis on melodies and manages to deliver unique manipulations of vocal snippets, a trick that many electronic producers resort to these days yet fail to do so creatively.  All of the above holds up on the three track EP that he is offering up for free in exchange for your e-mail (fill in the widget below for your own copy).  Opening track "Hemisphere" is a definite highlight and the froggy bassline could easily be the inspiration for the EP's title. Also noteworthy is the third track, "Ring of Endless Light" that sounds a bit like something FSOL would have produced in 2012.  If you're interested in catching D/R/U/G/S and you reside in the UK, check out the details of his tour with Delphic here. Listen to our download the Amphibian EP below:

Preview: Joker - "Old Era"

While the Purple Don's debut LP The Vision as a whole was not much to write home about, Joker's signature take on dubstep remains on the radar of must fans of the genre and continues to impress on the few releases, alt takes and remixes since.  The latest track to surface on his soundcloud "Old Era" (to be released on his own imprint Kapsize) is no exception.  The arpeggiated blips, a harsh bassline, reminiscent of Squarepusher textures but obviously more sequenced, combined with his efficient dubstep drum patterns are everything we loved about Joker and more, not to mention the artwork is pretty amazing (and purple) too.  Preview the track below:

mis-bit - "Over//Under"

Back from hiding, Red Cup contributor and Athens based producer mis-bit has offered up one of his latest tracks for our casual release output Rec'd Up.  With influences ranging from the Tri Angle roster to the tense atmosphere in Athens, Greece mis-bit delivers a dark and pensive ghost-hop number entitled "Over//Under" which you can listen to or download below:

Stream: Holy Other - Held LP

We'd like to start off with a gigantic thank you to the folks over at Onomatopoeia for basically taking over Red Cup for a while since we've been gone.  You might not have noticed, but some of us have been on vacation while our like-minded friends and co-contributors from 'poeia have been making sure you haven't missed anything worthwhile during these slow months in the world of electronic music.  What you definitely shouldn't have missed is the Perestroika "Very Very Dangerous" EP  co-presented by our two blogs and available for free download.

Now to get to the matter at hand, Onomatopoeia already posted this surprise full album stream of Holy Other's Held LP which will be releasing soon, yet as true Tri Angle Records completionists we thought we'd post it here too for our archives.  We'll be honest with you: we've pre-ordered the record and we suffer from a severe case of vinyl fetishism so we won't actually listen to it until we're putting a needle on its grooves.  Our expectations are so high, it's arrival will be an event over at Red Cup. Perhaps those of you without such  hang ups can tell us what it's like?

Video: José Padilla & Kirsty Keatch - "Helios" (Balam Acab Remix)

Apparently Balam Acab made this remix of "Helios" over a year ago for José Padilla & Kirsty Keatch but it only just came out today via a video. The sound of this one is liquid, you’ll see what I mean once you press play. On a side note apparently combining these three artists essentially equals what I hear as Purity Ring!

Download/Listen: Lindstrøm – “Rà-àkõ-st”

Lindstrøm comes in hard with his latest single "Rà-àkõ-st." The quality tune is the first single from the Norwegian producer’s, as of yet untitled, forthcoming LP.

Listen: Actress - "Shock Therapy 101"

Actress dropped a new tune via his twitter account. The track entitled “Shock Therapy 101″ has a more upbeat vibe to it than anything we heard on his 2012 LP R.I.P.  The beat driven track slowly and minimally builds up until the snyths hit and lead us out with the precision timing that the producer has become known for.

NSYNC - "Bye Bye Bye" (Balam Acab Remix)

There's no doubt that Balam Acab is on a strange tip right now...just listen to one of his recent track entitled "Ass Pop".  As if this wasn't perplexing enough, the young Alec Koone has dared to remix NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye".  Has Balam Acab lost his way or is he paving a new road? Let us know what you think,  Download or listen to the track below:

Video: Jacques Greene – “Ready”

Producer JacquesGreene's drops the video for "Ready" the title track from his new EP on Martyn's 3024 label. From early releases with LuckyMe and Night Slugs via high profile remixes and on to the recent formation of his own Vase imprint the Montreal native has been at the front of his home town's rapidly snowballing acclaim as a creative incubator of unusual quality, fusing R&B's raw emoting to House and Techno's sleek propulsion. The Ready EP is a further refinement of the sound he's made his own, taking it further than ever before but always balancing aerodynamic efficiency with the unusually organic emotion. The video its self seems to be a world of miniatures although this could just be trick camera work, whatever the case both the tune and visuals are top notch.

Listen: Rustie – “After Light” Remix (Feat. AlunaGeorge)

Rustie saw his Glass Swords standout “After Light” reach new levels of popularity when sporting company Adidas used it in a commercial for the London Olympics and today its star grows even more courtesy of London pop duo AlunaGeorge. Singer Aluna Francis, provides some vocals and turns “After Light” into a sing-along jam for the remaining summer months.

Listen: SBTRKT – “Gloss”

Back in May we shared something new from UK dub artist SBTRKT, the tune was reported to be part of a forthcoming ep and today we have yet another new tune in the form of “Gloss.” I can’t say with certainty that this tune will be official released as part of the ep but it doesn’t really matter, what does is we got new music from the man and you can hear it now below….

Preview: Shed - The Killer LP

After his remarkable work on Ostgut Ton for his second album "Shedding The Past", the evermorphing Rene Pawlowitz finds a fitting second home on Modeselektor's 50 Weapons label with his new LP "The Killer" which remains in the ambient techno side of his work but introduces a dubstep side for this LP. Preview this much anticipated LP below which will be releasing on the 27th of July:

Listen: James Pants - "Hotel Collection EP"

Stones Throw beat scientist JamesPants delivers a 10-track instrumental ep to share on this overcast Friday in NY. James describes the project as  “A 7-star collection for business travelers, high flyers, and power-movers.” Check it in its entirety below…..

Download: Evian Christ - "FYTS"

Evian Christ was an elusive producer early this year until he was picked up by Tri Angle Records and quickly thrusted into the limelight due to his original take on the then sound-of-the-moment i.e. footwork combined with  cavernous atmospherics and clashing hip-hop vocal samples. As is evidenced by this track he just posted on twitter, as well as his recent mix for Dummy which you can listen to here, Evian has since shifted his focus to more lo-fi ambient textures and more experimental rhythms.  A welcome proof of the versatility of his production capabilities.  Download "FYTS" here.

Listen: Prefuse 73 – “Aninha”

Piano Overlord, aka Prefuse 73,  dropped a tune by the name of  "Aninha" recently. The single officially appears on Aninha Mission, a collection of tracks recorded back in 2004 that never saw the light of day, that is now available via Chocolate Industries. They say good things come with age, what do you think?

Blood Diamonds - Phone Sex EP

The Phone Sex EP comes from the Vancouver based balearic influenced producer Blood Diamonds on 4AD (further proof of the versatility of the label's roster which also includes artists such as Zomby, Grimes and The Big Pink). The EP is the audio equivalent of Jeff Koons kitsch and features two original tracks which you can stream below. The title track is perhaps THE balearic track of the summer with a catchy and audacious chorus featuring labelmate Grimes pleading "please daddy take me home".  The production is as colorful and shiny as the cover art (by Elite Gymnastics) with steel drums and major chords abound. "Ritual" is a slightly more abstract number in terms of lyrics yet the melodies equally poppy and uplifiting. (we think Grimes's voice is also present here in a chopped and processed form). The remixes of "Phone Sex" by Unicorn Kid and Jensen Sportag are also worth a listen in their own right. All in all a unique package...and packaging (the vinyl comes in bright pink), which is available in Europe already and will be out in the states on the 24th of July.

Watch: The Field - Comenius Garden (Music Video)

Adult Swim, the adult cartoon channel, loves giving away free music and not the sucky kind.  The Field's "Comenius Garden" is part of their 2012 singles program and is yet another impressive freebie that you can download directly from their site.  After the impressive Looping State of Mind LP, it's goo to hear the master of the short loop is still on form.  Listen to "Comenius Garden" or watch the video below:

Holy Other - "Held"

The man behind our favorite record (even though it was 'only' an EP) from last year, Holy Other has revealed yet another track from his forthcoming album Held releasing in late August on Tri Angle Records.  Last time it was the brilliant "Love Some1", this time it's the title track itself. The Holy Other formula is intact on this track, if not at its peak...let's just say that our suspicions that this album will also be our favorite of 2012 are coming true. Listen to "Held" below:

Vii - "Cynthia" (Demo)

Vii, a Red Cup contributor, is the first to offer up a song for our label in the making Rec'd Up. "Cynthia", a bass driven tech-house track, is the first song she has ever produced and will be featured on Rec'd Up 001.  You can stream the entire track below in an early demo version in which you can hear her influences range from Berlin to Athens.

Sei A - You Can Bring EP

Sei A delivers yet another brilliant release on Simple Records in the from of the You Can Bring EP, which also features a remix by Alex Boman.  You can listen to the title track in its entirety below, which sounds like a mix between's Four Tet's organic techno shuffle and the minimalist bass music that's been all the rage recently.

Update: UNKLE - UNKLE Sounds Vol. 1 and The End Pt. 1 (Mix)

We're loyal UNKLE fans here at Red Cup and remain excited to this day to listen to what James Lavelle and his ever-shuffling collaborators will come up with next.  In the wait for a new album, that we've heard is on the way, we've been enjoying the many reworks of tracks off Where did the Night Fall and the Eps that followed. UNKLE Sounds Vol. 1 is yet another selection of remixes  of those tracks that we're played out by Lavelle during his UNKLE Sound audio/visual sets.  You can listen to the entire set of tracks below or buy it here exclusively from Beatport.  You should also check out the amazing mix "The End Pt. 1" which features some of these tracks and more (including a great Daft Punk acapella moment) by the man himself which you can stream or download below as well:

Preview: Petre Inspirescu - "Un Livret De Duminica" EP

In control of both his music and graphic art, Romanian artist Petre Inspirescu delivers an impressive vinyl-only debut EP entitled "Un Livret De Duminica". After a succesful series of podcasts, Petre puts on his producer hat resulting in a funky techno minimal sound that is especially succeful on the title track, that also features an interesting melodic underbelly.  The more abstract B-side with its bubbles and snaps shouldn't be overlooked either. Tri Angle Bi Post no. 6 - Vessel announces new album and Evian Christ releases "King and Them" on vinyl

Welcome to our 6th installment of Tri Angle Records news couplings (check out our previous one here).  This time around we're happy to reveal two album releases (one brand new and one first time physical release) from two of the label's most recent signings.

First off we're talking about Vessel's LP entitled "Order of Noise" to release this September.  According to the imprint "trying to pin down Vessel’s constantly evolving sound has never been an easy task".  This not only applies from track to track, but within a track itself.  Listen to album track "Court of Lions" below as it meanders from an intro that sounds like a typewriter having a go at ping pong to a techno second act only to end up in electro/ambient crossover territory.

Speaking of Lions check out the cover for Evian Christ's "King's and Them" which is finally available on vinyl from all good record stores including this one.  On our fourth Tri Angle Bi Post we talked about how excited we were about Evian joining the roster and even posted the link to all the tracks of the album for download.  Listen to "MYD" one of our favorite tracks on the album below:

Argy & Alex Picone - "Eternal Moment" EP

Greek producer Argy returns on to the Memento Label, this time along with Alex Picone collaborating on "Eternal Moment", a dreamy acid influenced techno release - the title track even reminds us of early Moby. "This Is How It Goes" on the B side is an edgy tech-house track that delivers on the strong suits of each artist. Preview the EP below:

Juicy J - "Cash [Interlude]" (Balam Acab Remix)

Balam Acab's remix of Juicy J's interlude track "Cash" serves as further evidence of a sonic departure for Alex Koone. While the vast majority of his previous work feature that signature muffled underwater production sheen, Cash and Ass Pop, both in title and in sound, point toward a more in your face sound directly influenced by a hip-hop aesthetic.  You can listen to or download "Cash" below:

Download: Minotaur Shock - "Saundersfoot" (Gold Panda remix)

Minotaur Shock hasn't reared his horns in a long time, yet he should be credited for having been in the micro-glitch loop game way before Gold Panda, The Field and others dabbled in the technique steering it into different genres and sonic terrain.  His 2005 LP Maritime was a revelation for us and often revisit its cute (both in terms of sound and artwork) music. Minotaur Shock will be releasing a new LP on August 20th, featuring the track "Saundersfoot" which sounds like a more mature and stripped back take on his older sound.  Surprisingly and despite a shared affection of glitchy loops, Gold Panda's remix of the track sounds less cut-up, almost as if he smoothed over the original's gaps and clicks.  You can listen to both versions of the track below and even download Gold Panda's rework:

Dusk + Blackdown - Keysound 032 EP (featuring Burial...)

Dusk and Blackdown were already in the post-dubstep sphere during the dubstep heyday.  Having already received a monumental remix for Blackdown's "Crackle Blues"  by Burial, their latest single features a collaborator on the A-Side track "High Road", who is being kept secret but the resulting sound serves as a spoiler in and of itself...it's Burial people.  Listen to snippets of this EP, including the aforementioned track, exclusively over at FactMag, who also mention that the EP features older material (but don't worry about it sounding dated).

Guy Gerber - Fabric 64

Scuba - "NE1BUTU" (SCB Edit)

Scuba's latest LP Personality was a wide eyed optimistic affair ideally suited for your summer excursions.  Scuba has now remixed one of his own tracks off the LP through his darker techno learning alter ego SCB.  The result is something more suited for a Berlin dungeon with a massive sound system.  Listen to the SCB edit of "NE1BUTU" below:

TNGHT - TNGHT EP

We warned you this was coming and that it was going to be huge.  Now you can listen to a mix of all the songs on the EP by Hudson Mohawke and Lunice's collaborative project TNGHT.  We think you'll agree that it sounds as big as it sounded on paper.

Holy Other - "Love Some1 "

Holy Other was probably our favorite artist of 2011 on our favorite label of last year, not to mention that his With U EP was our first post on Red Cup. Words cannot describe how excited we are for his debut LP on Tri Angle releasing on the 28th of August entitled Held.  Even the release date seems ideal as the record will undoubtedly provide the perfect soundtrack to our summer comedown.  If this announcement wasn't enough to get you excited, the label was kind enough to reveal one of the tracks off the album ahead of its release.  "Love Some1", which you can listen to below, proves once more that Holy Other' s music captures and exudes ridiculous amounts of tension and emotion through the unique and deep textures that he concocts.  He also is one of the most talented manipulators of inarticulate vocal samples, up there with the likes of Burial.

Now you can check out two more exclusive songs to be featured on the mix: Modeselektor's own "Maik the Chicken" and Martyn's "Red Dancers".   Both tracks are in the same vein of each respective artist's recent work and are definitely worth a listen.  The two tracks are also sold separately on a special 12" release available before the second Modeselektion is due.  Listen to them below:
